What's going on?

For Whom the Bell Tolls by Hemingway is a book which I will read and then make - I hope - a curious anllysis that I write down during I'm in Scotland, Edinburgh, Rosyth. In addition I will combine sounds and texts (voice), so as result we will have a composition.

The Spanish Civil War - The facts

It makes sense to start by reading something about the Spanish Civil War. I think it is important to know a bit about the history of the Spanish Civil War.

  • The Outbreak
  • The Early Fighting - July 1936
  • The Assassination of Lorca
  • Clash of Columns - August to September 1936
  • Escalation - October 1936 to June 1937
  • Guernica
  • Mass Armies - July 1937 to March 1939
  • Republican Versus Republican
  • Nationalist Versus Nationalist
  • Casualties

The Protagonist - Before He Starts on a Journey

Bel Vecchio: 'How are you feeling as the protagonist of For Whom the Bell Tolls by Hemingway? What is your first impression?'

The protagonist: 'I am felling well, but on the other hand if you knew what will happen, how would you feel? I try to forget what I do not want to know. Just the same, I am under the impression - before the adventure will begin - that my work which I will have done is very important for all people.'

Bel Vecchio: 'You seem to be self-confident. How long will you be still alive?'

The protagonist: 'I will need a big self-confidence. I do not know how long but I am quite sure that I will die - of course, I will not die of old age.'
